DMORT IV Application Information

Information for persons interested in becoming a member of DMORT Region IV:

1. DMORT members are NOT volunteers.  DMORT members are considered as full time federal government employees used (and paid) on an intermittent basis. The application process is the same as for all federal government employees.

2. DMORT  membership requires a commitment to maintain deployable status.  This includes completing courses, attending training and responding to e-mails and calls from team leadership. Some training may be at the members expense.

3. Each DMORT applicant must go through a rigorous security screening process.  It is possible that a prospective member would have to travel at their own expense to get fingerprinted at a federal government facility.

4. DMORT is part of the National Disaster Medical System which an agency of the Department of Health and Human Services.  Employees of NDMS have the same employment protection as members of the military.

5. DMORT members must have and wear the approved uniform, whether it is provided or purchased by the individual team member.

6. DMORT members are required to keep team leadership up to date on their ability to deploy.  All members must be on a first call roster for at least three months each year.

7. Deployments are usually for two weeks.

8. DMORT Region IV is made up of the eight southeastern states.  These are Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

9. There are limits on the number of professional disciplines allowed on the team.   Currently we are recruiting Pathologist, Anthropologist, Radiological Technicians and Computer Specialist.

If you are interested in applying for a position on DMORT or want to be placed on a waiting list please contact Dr. Jason Byrd.
